Remote does not always mean worldwide
Many remote vacancies are limited to particular countries because of payroll, tax, licensing or time-zone requirements. Before applying, check phrases such as ‘work from anywhere’, ‘EMEA’, ‘Africa’, ‘Ghana eligible’ or a list of accepted countries.
Do not hide your location. A transparent application helps the employer determine the correct contract and payment arrangement and prevents problems later.
Target remote-friendly roles
- Customer support and customer success
- Software development, testing and technical support
- Digital marketing, content and design
- Virtual assistance, operations and data administration
- Sales development, research and online education
Show that you can work independently
Remote employers look for evidence of written communication, ownership and reliable delivery. Your CV should mention tools you genuinely use, how you organise work, and examples of completing tasks with limited supervision.
A small portfolio can be powerful. Depending on the role, include writing samples, designs, code, reports, campaign results, spreadsheets or a short case study. Remove confidential client information before sharing.
Prepare your setup and availability
- Confirm your internet reliability and a realistic backup option.
- Know the time difference between Ghana and the employer’s working hours.
- Test video, audio and a quiet interview space in advance.
- Ask how contracts, taxes, equipment and international payments are handled.
Apply safely
Legitimate remote recruitment should include a clear role, identifiable employer and professional selection process. Be cautious when an offer arrives without an interview, promises unusually high income for simple tasks, asks you to buy equipment through a named seller, or requires payment before work begins.
